Already in use by French professional cycling teams, the Aeroscale is a combination of fancy gear and proprietary software that calculates your drag and rolling resistance.
Their system integrates a proprietary Pitot tube, a high-precision speed sensor, and an unique cyclist detection system. Combined with their algorithms, they claim it provides extremely precise measurements for rolling resistance (Crr) and aerodynamic drag (CdA) with an accuracy of 0.5 watts on a velodrome and 1 to 3 watts outdoors, regardless of weather or surface conditions.

The only downsides? It’s measuring in short bursts of a few minutes, you have to visit their lab, and you review the data later.

Now, the company plans to release Wasted Watts, a next generation platform that delivers that data in near real time, helping you make on-the-bike changes to your position, clothing, draft distance, and more. Because why waste watts when you can throw money and technology at it?
If you agree with us that there’s only one good kind of good kind of wasted Watts, you can get on their mailing list for updates. Aeroscale says the project launches this fall, no word on pricing or tech details, but from appearances, it should push the data to a Garmin cycling computer (and hopefully other brands, too).
Triathletes, start saving your money now.
