Basso’s latest SV is an aero road bike developed for rider, not for pro racers. What that really means is that while it is lightweight, aerodynamic, quick handling, and stiff where it needs to be… it is actually designed for comfort, real human fits, and with big enough all-road tire clearance so you won’t be limited only to buttery smooth asphalt.

This could be the pinnacle made-in-Italy aero all-road bike for real cyclists…

Basso appended the SV abbreviation onto the end of their fastest Diamante road race bike names for several years – short for Sempre Veloce or ‘always fast’. But now this new bike simplifies their aero road bike naming, sticking just with that SV core principle.

Basso describes their new top-tier carbon SV as a road bike offering “racing-level performance, for all riders.” Instead of creating a race bike for the pro peloton and then trying to sell it to amateur cyclists, Basso says they can focus on the needs of the customers who buy and ride their bikes. They claim that frees them up to prioritize a more realistic ‘balance of racing performance and everyday usability’.

So Basso road riders get broad biomechanically dialed-in fit options, genuine rider comfort, real all road surface practicality, plus a lightweight, responsive & aerodynamically-optimized bike.

It is a carbon road bike made entirely in Italy though, so that ‘all riders’ label really pertains only to all riders with a healthy new bike budget.

What’s new?

The big shift for the new SV vs. Basso’s previous Diamante & Diamante SV is a move away from pigeonholing a bike as either ‘race’ or ‘all-road’.

That really works because of the new Basso SV’s bigger 35mm tire clearance, providing versatility over all hard surface roads, plus some flexibility to take your road rides further afield.

It still delivers on aerodynamics though, now optimized for a wide range of 28-35mm road tires. In fact, even though the SV has generally higher frame Stack (but lower standover heights) for improved rider fit without spacer stacks, it is more aero. That essentially boils down to the 16% reduced frontal area of the new Basso SV compared to the previous Diamante SV generation. Basso takes it one step further, with a new perspective on their forward leaning fork crown, transitioning airflow smoothly off the front wheel into the sharp-edged upper section of downtube.

At the same time, the new SV is also stiffer where you want it. Bottom bracket stiffness is up 7.5% over the Diamante SV, headtube stiffness is up 22.5%, and rear triangle stiffness remains unchanged. And at the same time, more seatpost extension and a 2nd-gen vibration-damping 3B Clamp seatpost clamping design promise improved compliance at the rider’s saddle

780g unpainted small frame without any hardware? That means, 1000g for a painted version. What a pig.
