Apidura has reshaped a slimmer, streamlined front end for their fast ultra-distance audax bikepacking bag setup with a new Racing Aerobar Pack. Aiming for less frontal area to reduce energy-sapping drag, the new bag tucks neatly out front underneath your aero bar extensions, packing just enough gear inside, with room for snacks up top…
Apidura Racing Aerobar Pack out-front bikepacking bag
Pretty much a cross between their ~3L Expedition Fork Pack and a Racing Saddle Pack, the new Aerobar Pack is a relatively small 2.5L roll-top bag that tucks under your extensions, with by far Apidura’s smallest frontal area for a handlebar pack yet. Apidura says its development actually came directly from seeing “enough racers mounting our fork packs to their aerobars to realise that there’s a real unmet need amongst the racing contingent“.
Less frontal area means reduced drag… aero is everything!
Their first Racing Series Handlebar Pack also hung under your aero bars to haul 5L of gear, but at about 27cm wide x 18cm tall, it kinda did feel like it was pushing into the wind – a bit against the ethos of getting low & aero on the bike. The 2.5L Racing Handlebar Mini Pack scaled that back to just 22.5x14cm, and hung directly off the tops of your dropbars, for riders prioritizing easy access to getting low.
Now the new Aerobar Pack adapts to your aero bar setup, averaging just 9.5cm tall x 11cm across at the widest point near its top (the bag tapers narrower at the bottom). When open at its front the bag is 11cm wide at the top, 8cm wide at the bottom of the 11cm tall opening, when rolled closed just 10cm tall.
Tech details
The new Apidura Racing Aerobar Pack gets all the Racing Series tech details like the same waterproof, abrasion-resistant black Hexalon fabric with low-key yellow & silver reflective detailing, and cutout slits on the front let you hang a blinkie front light for more visibility.
Inside an HDPE plastic insert gives the bag structure, and the rolltop closure (and rear-facing air pressure release) keeps it waterproof & adjustable with compression buckles on the side of the bag.
Up top, four adjustable positions for the velcro loops allow you to secure it to any aero bar extensions.
And then a crisscrossing bungee lets you strap down anything from a mobile phone to a snack/extra clothing layer/sunglasses, tucked conveniently between your extensions.
