There is nothing in the quote from Rashid about “keepin’ it real”, and no-one who doesn’t ride with him has any idea of how or what he’s riding.
I think it’s a cool blend of (very) early and current MTB tech, if it’s working for the owner what business is it of ours to criticise?
Sweet ride. I only have those bars left from my ’82 Stumpy. It was traded in for something lighter a few years later. Nothing wrong with a few improved upgrades over time, my original TA cranks got real flexy, occasionally touching the chainstay under pressure……and I was real happy to upgrade the Mafac brakes to the new XT cantilevers when they became available.
Well I guess there’s a possibility of those parts failing after 30+ years, but the bars are either chromed steel or alloy with walls so thick it might as well be a solid bar, I’d be more concerned about someone riding 10-15 year old super-light alloy or early carbon.
Also (and I am assuming he wrenches on his own bike, so maybe I’m leaping to conclusions here) the owner has figured out how to squeeze a 135mm rear hub into that frame, and run V-brakes with cantilever brake levers, so he’s probably somewhat bike-savvy.
