Finally, new carbon Bora WTO 60 DB wheels bring Campagnolo up to speed for modern road sprints, time trials, and triathlon racing. Since Campy debuted their wind tunnel optimized aero Bora WTO wheels two years ago, their ‘most versatile for road racing’ 60mm option was still lacking from the disc brake line-up. Now that has been corrected, with aerodynamic, tubeless carbon disc brake road bike wheels offered in three depths to suit a wide range of racing conditions…
2021 Campagnolo Bora WTO 60 DB aero carbon road wheels
Campagnolo hyped their 60mm deep Bora WTO 60 wheels from the start as the best option for all-around road racing, but even after disc brake versions of the Wind Tunnel Optimized range were added in a mid-depth 45mm profile last spring, and shallow 33mm option this winter, a gap remained for the deeper wheels that road sprinters, time trialists & triathletes seek out.
With their deeper aero profile Campy claims this WTO rim even offers negative drag (lift pushing the aero profile forward) in the wind at certain yaw angles. The new wheels promise “maximum aerodynamic penetration: with a wind angle of between 10° and 20° – a condition which occurs for 80% of the time spent in the saddle – this wheel is unrivaled when it comes to overcoming air resistance“.
Campy Bora WTO 60 DB – Tech details, pricing & availability
The new disc brake specific Bora WTO 60 DB feature an all-new 60mm deep blunt rim profile, similar to the rim brake model, but actually slightly narrower at 26.1mm external. They do share the same 19mm internal, hooked 2-way Fit tubeless C19 bead as the rest of Campy’s modern disc brake road race wheels, optimized to ride 23, 25 or 28mm road race tires.
Like previous WTO wheels, these new 60 DBs feature a UD carbon fiber layup with a UV-resistant resin that requires no paint or any extra finishing out of the mold. The result is a decently light weight of 1590g for the deep aero carbon, tubeless disc brake road wheelset – rated for rider+bike up to 120kg/265lb.
The Bora WTO 60 DB wheels feature Campy’s grouped G3 2:1 lacing, and an uninterrupted rim bed thanks to MoMag wheel building. Their 24 straight-pull elliptical aero aluminum spokes are grouped in sets of three with two spokes from one side paired to a single spoke from the opposing side of the hub to create more even spoke tension for long-term wheel durability.
The new aero wheels spin on lightweight oversized alloy axles and cup & cone USB ceramic bearings, inside machined alloy high-flange, aero-optimized disc brake hubs. The hubs feature centerlock (AFS) standard rotor interface and come setup for 12mm thru-axles. Campy freehubs are standard, but HG11 Shimano & XDR SRAM options are also available to those who throw caution to the wind.
The new Campagnolo Bora WTO 60 DB aero carbon road wheels are available now for 2160€, with some global limitation or delays expected due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. No word on if a 77mm deep or solid disc rear TT wheel option will be added for disc brakes in the near future.
