Canyon has an all-new family of well-equipped utilitarian city commuter bikes with the standard Citylite and its Bosch-powered ebike sibling the Citylite:ON. Both share no-fuss Gates belt-drives with internally geared hubs, the same burly alloy construction with modular front & rear rack mounting options, and traditional & step-through frame versions to suit all riders. Plus, they are ready-to-commute out of the box with all the essential urban riding accessories like full-coverage fenders, MIK HD rear rack with strap, a built-in rear wheel lock, kickstand, Knog bell, and integrated lighting.

Ditch the car and ride a bike to get around town instead.

Canyon describes the Citylite family as the perfect urban bike to “get you to your work and back lickety-split this summer”. And since it is already equipped with the core essential accessories, you only have to decide if you need pedal-assist or not and whether you prefer the fit of a classic frame or the ease of a step-through.

Well, and maybe which color you prefer.

Tech details

Canyon Citylite & Citylite:ON – Pricing, availability & options

Two frame styles for each, there are essentially just a standard pedal-powered or a pedal-assist ebike version of the new Canyon Citylite commuter bikes. And since they already come fully equipped, pricing is pretty straightforward, too.

The Canyon Citylite bike sells for 1500€ (claimed weights of Step-over: 15.94kg or Step-through: 15.88kg).

And the Citylite:ON ebike sells for twice that at 3000€ (claimed weights of Step-over: 21.94kg or Step-through: 21.46kg). Pick your frame layout, then pick your favorite two-tone color scheme: Moonstone gray, Nightfall black, or Aurora green.

Then, if you really want to carry a bit more, for 50€ extra you can bolt a Canyon MIK front rack onto your headtube to haul 10kg more goodies up front. 40€ more will get you a neat and tidy Basil QR plastic crate to attach to your rack. 90€ for an Urban Iki child carrier seat or an Ortlieb Back-Roller Free pannier, either of which quick-attach to the built-in rear rack. Or even whatever setup you need to hang a trailer off the back…

The front light is an awful idea. If you’ve loaded something big in the front rack you can’t see the road. Or if you have the audacity to tune the angle of the handlebars to your personal ergonomic preference the cone of light might end up somewhere undesirable. But I guess it doesn’t matter so much for a bicycle that is constantly at the manufacturer for warranty claims.

On the flip-side, the light does not protrude and is protected from damage when parked in bike racks. City riders aren’t really that concerned with bar angle so that’s not really an issue. As for “big” item carry, just have to figure that out. If it’s a regular need, there are cargo bikes for that.
