Yes, you read that right… this limited edition Canyon Speedmax CF SLX Frodissimo tri bike truly gets its coffee-colored fade good looks from ground arabica beans mixed inside its paint. Not only is the bike literally infused with World Champion triathlete Jan Frodeno’s own signature dark roast beans, but Canyon will send you a matching Frodissimo espresso setup and bag of coffee for the full experience…
Canyon Speedmax Frodissimo tri bike infused with coffee
Canyon started with their top carbon Speedmax CF SLX triathlon bike, one of the winningest bikes in the mixed discipline sport. Then, they give it a trick limited edition Frodissimo finish that mixes 7 grams of finely-ground arabica beans into its paint for that subtle macchiato brown coffee foam fade. And on top of that, a race-ready build that while pretty high-end, manages to not quite go over the top. There are after all a few more expensive builds in the Speedmax CFR family, for those really counting grams or demanding Dura-Ace.
Why the coffee fade?
We all know that many cyclists are addicted to coffee, but apparently, World Champion triathlete Jan Frodeno is a caffeine junkie, too. So much so that with an Italian-inspired Frodissimo nickname from his tri racing success, he leveraged that into creating his own coffee brand, as well. Apparently instigated by one of SRAM’s marketing team following Frodeno’s 2008 Beijing Olympic triathlon Gold medal, it’s since evolved into his own Frodissimo brand through online sports retailer Ryzon with two organic roast options produced by the respected German coffee roasters Merchant & Friends near Munich, plus a bunch of branded sports gear, too.
Tech details
As to the bike, it’s the same carbon triathlon platform that Frodeno has been racing since 2020. The disc brake bike features benchmark aerodynamic performance and tons of aero integration from adjustable cockpit fit, to all the cables, to onboard nutrition, hydration & spares storage.
Its latest Canyon CP0019 flay basebar & GP0226 telescopic aero bar extensions allow for lots of adjustability, then topped off with extra comfort, large surface area Canyon Pro Armpads by Ergon for reduced pressure on your forearms.
The bike gets built up with a SRAM Force eTap AXS 2x 12-speed wireless groupset, complete with a Force carbon crankset equipped with a Quarq power meter spider. Wheels are the much lighter new deep carbon Zipp 808s that we reviewed recently, wrapped in fast Continental Grand Prix 5000 S tubeless tires (25mm front, 28mm rear).
