The new Chapter2 TOA is said to culminate several years of aerodynamic road bike and versatile gravel bike development into one do-it-all integrated aero all-road bike. And like every Chapter2, the new Toa is available only as a limited edition frameset, so you build the perfect and unique bike for all of the roads that you ride.

Chapter2 calls the Toa a ‘performance all-road’ bike, a direct evolution of their original Tere – a road bike that’s not trying to be a gravel bike (their AO has that covered). But with generous 30mm tire clearance*, it is actually a racy aero carbon road bike that doesn’t need to stick only to smooth tarmac. Now with fully internal cable routing and smoother frame & fork shaping, it also promises to be quicker than ever without sacrificing on comfort.

Tech Details & All-road Geometry

The most obvious technical difference between the new Toa and the original Tere is completely internal cable routing.

Combined with Chapter2’s one-piece carbon MANA bar+stem cockpit and a straight 1.5″ headset, all cables stay entirely inside for a clean, more aero setup – whether with a mechanical or electronic shift groupset. Riders can choose their MANA bar size of choice, with five sizes to choose from.

Unlike the Tere, this new bike is also disc brake only, with flat mount calipers and 12mm thru-axles.

One of Chapter2 key points on developing the Toa to be ‘all-road’ has been to start with bigger tire clearances than the original Tere – providing improved grip, more comfort, and more versatility. Chapter2 claims “practical” tire clearance of 32mm for the new bike, but admits that official ISO clearance is a bit less at 30mm.

(*That difference comes down to ISO defining a minimum 4mm clearance per side for safety. Chapter2 figures on a slick road tire where you aren’t picking up a lot of mud or tire debris, 3mm clearance should be fine between tire & frame, allowing for a bit extra tire volume.)

The UCI-approved Toray carbon frameset gets revised aero Kamm tail tube shaping, smooth fork crown to downtube shaping, deeper dropped vibration-damping seatstays, and 23.5% improved headtube & +7.3% bottom bracket stiffness over the Tere thanks to a new latex mandrel manufacturing process for the main triangle.

The Toa is available in five stock sizes (XS-XL) with slightly more aggressive geometry than the original Tere Disc (a few mm lower, shorter & a ° steeper). New Toa frame weight is claimed at 1105g (size M), plus 425g for an uncut fork, 135g for the seatpost, and 395g for the Mana bar+stem (100x420mm.)

The Toa features a proprietary D-shaped aero seatpost designed to damp vibration with a hidden wedge-style seatpost clamp, two-position water bottle bosses in the main triangle, and a threaded alloy T47 bottom bracket.
