The Classified specialty is of course their unique 2-speed hub. But this new expanded collection of a 1x crankset, aerodynamic chainrings, and expanded cassette options may be just the thing to help more riders adopt their virtual 2x drivetrain. The aero & simplicity benefits of 1x with the smooth gearing steps of 2x, with a more complete Classified solution…
Classified Powershift adds 1x cranks, chainrings & more!
Classified says their new cranks and chainrings were developed to “seamlessly expand our ecosystem, offering even greater compatibility and integration.” Since many aftermarket adopters of the Classified Powershift 2-speed internally geared hub system are moving away from conventional 2x drivetrains, they already need to find 1x crankset alternative. Keeping it within their ecosystem helps Classified strengthen their Powershift drivetrain brand. And they aim to offer a lightweight premium carbon 1x crankset solution cheaper than most other premium setups.

More cassettes, bigger 583% gearing range!
On the cassette front, more Classified cassette options is always a good thing, since their unique hub design locks users into their own proprietary cassettes. But Classified is doing a solid job of creating a lot more gearing options. The big news here is the addition of 3 different new 10-40T cassette options that combined with their 2-speed hub deliver a huge 583% gearing range, while also reducing gearing steps compared to conventional 1x setups.
Another big benefit of moving to that 10-tooth is to get extra top-end speed on gravel & mountain bikes that are limited to smaller chainrings due to frame clearance issues.
The new 583%10-40T cassettes come in three versions:
- 12-speed gravel & MTB for mechanical SRAM Eagle derailleurs
275g claimed weight (10-12-14-16-18-20-22-25-28-32-36-40 gearing) - 12-speed T-type gravel & MTB for electronic SRAM Transmission derailleurs & flattop chains
288g claimed weight (10-12-14-16-18-20-22-25-28-32-36-40 gearing) - 13-speed T-type gravel for the latest electronic SRAM Red Xplr derailleur & flattop chain
279g claimed weight (10-11-12-13-14-16-18-20-23-26-30-35-40 gearing)
There’s also a 4th new cassette, a 12-speed 10-35T for gravel but with tighter all-road-ready spacing. It still features a 525% range on par with the latest Eagle setup at a claimed 243g (10-11-12-13-14-16-18-21-24-28-32-36 gearing).
The trick to these new cassettes with a 10T small cog is they require Classified’s Powershift CD27 hub. So if you already have a Powershift setup, take a close look to confirm compatibility.
