Commencal bikes have just released a couple of mountain bike hip packs – the Light Hipbag & Enduro Hipbag – to cover everything from short spins to all-day adventure rides. The Light version is especially small so it can even slip under your jersey, while the larger Enduro pack has an optional Fidlock magnetic mount that can carry an extra bottle & more…
Commencal MTB Light Enduro & Enduro Hipbags
Of course, we mostly know Commencal for their solid-value aluminum mountain bikes, but they also make a wide range of on- & off-the-bike clothing and gear, too – plus, curiously skis. In any case, some of that gear looks really good, and these hip bags seem to be the perfect example.
Light Enduro Hipbag
The 35€ Commencal Light Enduro Hipbag goes in the minimalist, low-profile direction. Made of X-Pac nylon it gets 3 thin, flat pockets, each with water-resistant zippers.
The middle pocket will fit most smartphones or thin wallets, and includes a clip for your keys and small internal mesh organizer pockets.
Then, a wing pocket on either side has room for a multi-tool or energy bar/gel. An adjustable webbing belt & buckle secure it in place, while some silicone printing on the backside will help keep it from moving around as you ride.
Commencal says the Light Enduro bag is perfect for the core essentials, and can be comfortably worn under your jersey directly against the skin, in between jersey & back protector, or just outside of whatever you wear to ride.
Enduro Hipbag + Fidlock
The Commencal Enduro Hipbag is a bit more complex, offering additional storage and the option with or without a quick-release magnetic Fidlock water bottle mount on its right hip.
The bigger Enduro Hipbag again features a similar overall pocket layout, but the main pocket is now 23 x 15 x 5cm to carry more gear – still getting a water-resistant zipper. Inside the main opening, a separate zipped pocket will keep your phone, three mesh pouches will organize your gear, and a clip will secure your keys.
Outside the main pocket are two more mesh pockets with webbing strap to secure them in place. It’s not entirely clear what will fit in these pockets, but if the mesh is stretchy enough and the top opens wide, you likely could fit a couple of bottles that the straps could secure in place.
Then, wing pockets on either hip keep small items easy to access, and the adjustable webbing belt & buckle secure the bag around your hips. The bigger bag is made from 420D Ripstop Nylon and features a mesh back and ribbed foam padding under its main pocket.
The remaining difference in the variations, the Enduro Fidlock Hipbag adds the standard 2-post magnetic Fidlock quick-release mount to the right hip. Use it to mount an easy-to-access Fidlock water bottle (a small bottle is included in one combo), the universal banana-ready Uni Connector, or even a Fidlock Toolbox. (Let’s just not talk too much about how somebody made this hopefully-preproduction bag with the Fidlock mount upside down, and they had to reverse the mount on the bottle to make it work.)
The Commencal Enduro Hipbag is sold in three variants – 39€ for the basic bag without a bottle mount, 45€ for the bag with the Fidlock mount, and 70€ for the bag with the Fidlock mount AND a 450ml Fidlock Twist water bottle with a covered valve.
