Peeped on a recent visit to London’s 14BikeCo… a completely copper-plated bike, their Truman model, made bespoke for a client.

Harking back to the very earliest days of bike building, the copper coating is to be left natural, at the buyer’s request, so that it changes colour and tarnishes in a completely unique way.

Absolutely stunning frame-building and attention to detail – even the spokes and nipples are copper plated! The company has also been experimenting with brass…

It’s a normal steel bike underneath, which is I think then treated chemically and coated with copper. So as long as the steel is not exposed it won’t rust. But copper oxidises and tarnishes in its own way.
