Crankbrothers officially announced that they’re offering a Mixed version of their Synthesis carbon MTB wheels, using a 29″ front and 27.5″ rear diameter. Said to offer a perfect balance of fast rolling performance and grip up front, with lower rotational weight and tighter handling out back, the combination has been used this season for DH World Cup victories.

Crankbrothers Synthesis Mixed Carbon E11 and DH11 Wheelsets

Mixed wheel sizes aren’t new, with 29″ front and 27.5″ rear becoming more popular (and replacing older 29″ front 26″ rear bikes). The idea is to create a best-of-all-worlds scenario of rolling performance, handling, and acceleration – while also improving butt-to-tire clearance out back. Crankbrothers has already been making front/rear optimized rim designs for non-mixed diameters, this just takes it one step further.

Two levels of the wheels will be offered – Synthesis E11 and DH11. Full specs are:

In addition to the mixed sizing, Crankbrothers now offers Superboost and Microspline rear hub options, giving expanded frame and drivetrain compatibility. Both the Synthesis E11 and DH11 are available now for a list price of $2,399 per pair.
