Not too long ago, crankbrothers caught our attention with their new Synthesis carbon wheels. Their claim is that the wheels are ‘tuned’ for better performance thanks to a front wheel that is built to turn, and a rear wheel that is built to track. Now, that same principle is being applied to e-bikes with their Synthesis E-MTB Carbon Wheelset.
Starting with a reinforced carbon rim to handle higher loads, the E-MTB versions also gain e-bike specific Sapim spokes. To round out the durability equation, a steel freehub body can handle higher torque. Those upgrades do come at a cost in terms of weight, with the E-MTB wheelset checking in at 237g heavier than the comparable Synthesis E Carbon Wheelset.
Offered in 27.5, 27.5+, 29″, or 29 front with 27.5+ rear, the E-MTB wheels are available in almost every configuration with a price of $1,699.
