Rolf is proud of the fact that their wheels are built in America. Their rims are made in house. The hubs are made in the USA. So it only seems fitting that when they needed inspiration for their latest Limited Edition Vigor wheelset, they found it in the famously blue Crater Lake. Not quite as wild as the Celeste colored VCX  Disc wheels they showed at NAHBS, this is one of the first times that you can buy Rolf rims using the colorful ceramic coating. But only for an extremely limited time…

Using the Rolf Prima Vigor wheel as a canvas, the Crater Lake inspired hoops get a matte ceramic blue coating everywhere but the brake track. The look is finished off with custom white decals to invoke the mirror blue water reflecting perfect clouds at the crater’s summit.

Using the same platform as standard Vigor wheelsets, the Limited Edition hoops run 16 paired spokes front and rear laced to TdF 4.4 hubs with titanium freehub bodies in either Shimano or Campy spline. The 31mm deep rims make for a 1535g wheelset with pricing set at $1399. The fine print is that if you want a pair, you have to place a $250 deposit by July, 24th. Those who do will be guaranteed a set when they begin to ship on August 20th. We have a feeling this won’t be the last time we see limited edition, colorful wheels from Rolf, but if you want these beautiful blue hoops, this is your chance!

I had a set of Rolf Prima Vigors on one of my bikes. Last year, a bad driver cut in front of me making a left turn through a “gap” in the traffic, and we collided at speed (me = 16 MPH). The collision knocked the fork off my bike and literally sheered apart the carbon steerer. The Vigor front wheel was unharmed. So I highly recommend the Rolf Prima guys and gals!

1400 dollars for 1500 gram aluminum clinchers?

Ignoring the paired spoke design, which has it’s own share of lovers and haters, you’re essentially paying a thousand dollar premium to other wheelsets for.. blue?
