Packing a bike for travel can be a harrowing experience. Putting your ride into the hands of other people can cause all sorts of stress, and if the bike actually gets mishandled along the way, it can make for a pretty bad trip.

The best way to learn to pack your bike is from experience, so if you don’t have a few million frequent flier miles under your belt, take it from pro photographer Dan Milner on how to take your bike with you, he may have done it a few times before.

Very nicely done. But exhausting. If I fly. I rent.
Otherwise my bike rides with me in the truck.

Can someone comment on the removal of the rotors and the brake housings?
I’m sure they are better protected during travel, but will alignment during reassembly be an issue? I’m usually leery of messing with my brakes, but maybe my concern is unfounded.

It’s hard to take someone seriously when he starts out by flipping the bike over grade-school style.

@Ron G I’m sure you’d prefer to just have your man servant hold the bike up for you while you take the wheels out… 😉

harry, i fly with a bike quite often and always take the rotors off. i run a 180 front and 160 rear on my trail bike so they stay front/rear specific. however, i pay no attention to “clocking” them the same as the where, which bolts go where and i have never had an issue.
