Ari God Save The Queen
God Save the Queen

With a brother owning Copenhagen’s premiere bike shop and a father producing diamond cutting tools, Ari Rosenzweig was destined to create bespoke frames in unique ways – establishing his craft in the Holy Land only added to the unorthodox nature of his quest. Dream up your new stainless-steel fat-bike or titanium gravel-racer after the break…

Ari Custom Ti Frame

Exactly how Ari transformed from a contemporary dancer from Denmark into an frame-welder in Israel is a bit of a secret, but the uniqueness of his situation is mirrored in his vast array of fully custom creations built in cromoly, stainless, and titanium.

Ari Custom Raw Cut Tubes

Israel has been a largely untapped market for custom builders and the challenge of succeeding as a first-to-market in a highly niche segment has forced the cliché to be a reality for Ari: innovate or die. And Ari has been innovating since 2006, bolstered by a collaboration with his father’s diamond-derived expertise in precision cutting and fabrication. The result – beautiful.

Ari Custom Head Badge Copper
Hand Hammered Copper Head Tube? Yes, Please.

The beauty is so often in the details and Ari is in no way set on an established formula; being incredibly open to nearly any desire of his customers, Ari accommodates various dropouts, bottom brackets, paint, headtubes, and options such as S&S couplers, split dropouts for belt-drives, a proprietary chain-stay yoke (to provide maximum clearance and minimal stay length), and slick stainless or copper head badges.

Ari Custom Blue Prints

All aforementioned details are only the icing on your fully custom-geometry frameset. Like any custom builder worth their proverbial salt, Ari does the full walk-through, quizzing you on your current bike setup, fit, characteristics, and breaking down your current and intended riding style/preference.

Ari Custom Builder Workshop

Due to increasing demand, and a growing wait-list, coming from primarily Denmark and Israel, Ari has expanded in 2013 from a solo craftsman at the classic-upstart garage location to an established workshop with two Israeli racers/riders/enthusiasts serving as his lieutenants: Max, an industrial designer, and Omri, business/product manager.

Ari Custom Steel Fat Bike

Ari will happily and deftly craft the bicycle of your choosing – fat or skinny, 26″/27.5″/29″/29+”, kid or adult, sand or snow, singletrack or blacktop – you say the word and Israel’s finest will create a one-off that very few this side of the Atlantic will recognize. Cromo from $2k; Stainless from $2.8k; Ti from $3.2k. Begin the journey here.

Does diamond cutting the tubes mean anything other than sounding fancy because the word ‘diamond’ is in it?

At best I would expect is very very marginally more precise cut which with proper welding technique might make a stronger weld. But that’s assuming all goes perfectly on the very first cut. The main cut is likely made with a diamond blade, but it still likely needs a bit of hand filing from there. But I’m guessing ‘diamond cut then regular hand-filed’ doesn’t have the same ring.

Don’t get me wrong, they’re gorgeous bikes, and I wish Ari the best; however, I’m not seeing the advantage of diamonds in the process other than for marketing.

Matt, you dont know what diamond cutting is do you? It seems you have no idea (if you dont know, at least google it before you make silly remarks). He does not diamond-cut the frames either. Lastly, if you just look on his website gallery he is using pretty standard tooling; he is not cutting things with diamonds.

It’s interesting that his proprietary cs yoke is so similar to paragons yoke. His ebb looks like a bad copy of the Niner ebb too. It’s cool that he can make money making frames I just don’t like the bad info.

Do you know what diamond turning is, Adam? How do you know whether he uses diamond tools to turn his head tubes?

I don’t think that it says that we use diamond cutting tools, just that my father had a diamond tool factory. Diamond tools won’t work cutting steel tubing or titanium tubing. The only diamond tool that I have is one for cutting aluminium blocks for making different jigs and fixtures, but that is a whole other story……:-)

You wrong Ari. Diamond cut steel tubes, and some of them ONLY Diamond tipped (fusion joined) hole saws can do.
The first instance of that tool I used was in 1991 to cut Excelle tubing from France. Second was Airmet100 from USA. Then Reynolds 853 and then Aermet300. All those steels are GigaPascall Steels with incredible tensile strengths and properties.
Right now will work on custom shapes of Reynolds making for me, where tubes would be cut with laser, as that is the only way to cut not round intersections.
So, Diamond do cut Steel.
All the best for your little endeavor.

Ari,
Your frames are quite lovely. And you’re awesome for your comment.

The title is greatly misleading “Ari Brings Diamond Cutting Tech To Bespoke Frames” no part of this is remotely linked to the tech of diamond cutting.

Mmm… The caustic sentiment here goes well with my morning coffee.

Nice frames. I like your hammered headbadge idea.

Would be great if they were belt-buckles too.

I’m the proud owner of an Ari frame (True Temper s3, stainless steel) for my roadbike. I’ve driven all kinds of frame materials, but nothing compares to riding a steelframe that has been designed to fit your measurements and preferred way of biking. The price for such a custom made frame is usuallly quite high, but Ari is surprisingly affordable – yet, so hurry up and order – it’s a great experience to be a part of that designing process.

(to order in Denmark, go see BenBen cycles in Copenhagen)

I think the title refers solely to the fact that Ari was exposed to machinery and fabrication in his father’s cutting shop, which led to him becoming a craft frame builder…maybe? But yes, either way the title is stretching the emphasis of the relation quite a bit.

Beautiful frames, Ari. I love the logo and graphic treatments.

I like the seat tube welded slightly forward of the bb to keep the chainstays short on the fat bike and a couple of the 29ers. Smart little trick if you don’t have the dies to bend 31.8mm seat tubes. Well done Ari!

wait, I don’t get a whole bag of diamonds with my frame? Or the tubing wasn’t somehow caressed with carbon exquisitry while being cut or formed?

Nice workmanship. It definitely shows a panache for details and metalworking. Perhaps something that he was instilled with at a younger age, or with more relevance because of his family’s work. I get it.

I can only recommend Ari and his brother Ben in designing bikes. The service they give is top of class. And being part of the process is great. It takes time to get your custom made frame but you get educated along the way so it’s very well spend time – face-to-face, over Skype, e-mail and SMS during the design phase. My first ARI 29″ MTB frame was a titanium – 3 years ago and it still makes heads turn 😉 ARI frames is for life!

I have an Ari bike for having fun in the forest. It beats my previous bikes in reaching that goal. It was such a pleasure to have the bike hand made specifically to my measurements. I think his past as a dancer helps him being innovative as well as relating to his customers physicality in other ways than an engineer could/would.
