Taking the gorgeous lines of their Podium road bike to the next level, Diamondback’s new Serios triathlon bike looks downright mean, particularly in matte black with muted logos. All they’re saying about it is an official launch date of October 7th, but a few screen caps after the break reveal a few details…

Seriously badass looks. Where many bikes use an airfoil in front of the headtube that connects the stem and fork, this one simply extends the headtube well in front of the steering column. Click to enlarge and you’ll notice where the steerer tube enters the frame from the fork and where the stem clamps it…a good couple inches behind the nose.

The fork crown flares slightly behind the brakes and carries that shape into the frame, likely to reduce turbulence behind the calipers.

As for the rear end, there are few interesting curves, but a cursory glance suggests they’re simply bending and shaping things to let the air slip by as gently as possible. We’ve reached out to Diamondback, but most likely the nitty gritty of the design will have to wait until the official unveil.

Are we really supposed to believe that Diamondback can make a bike aero enough to hold a candle to the likes of Trek, Cervelo, S, etc?

Considering DB is owned by Accel Group, which also owns Raleigh and Laiperre, i’d say they can put a decent bike together. The Optum team was running repainted Lapierre Aerostorms before this.

wako29 – why would we not believe it?

wak029 – I see your point. I recall having read somewhere that the amount spent on brand advertising has a direct correlation with aerodynamic efficiency.

@wako29: Why yes we are! I hear the bike was developed in collaboration with HED. Seriously, take a look at some of the carbon road frames DB has put out lately. Google Kevin Quan too. He’s designed a lot for Cervelo in the past and most recently DB. Don’t judge a book, right?

@Ck I thought they were riding DB Podium?

@That_guy I read that Quan did P3, which I think definitely makes him credible and qualified

Its nice to see DB is making actually trying to rebrand itself with quality. Its not something that happens over night but they are on the right track.
