Easton Cycling, a brand under the same parent company as Fox, Marzocchi and Race Face, has released a new, lighter weight, longer travel dropper seat post for drop-bar riders; the Easton EA90 AX dropper, with a dedicated drop-bar lever that can be operated from the hoods or the drops without compromising hand position.
With Fox having already developed a lightweight dropper seat post for XC, it seems it was all too easy for Easton Cycling to take the Fox Transfer SL and simply re-brand it.
Easton Cycling EA90 AX Dropper Seat Post
Where have you heard this before? It wasn’t so long ago that Race Face launched their Turbine SL dropper seat post, another example of a Fox Transfer SL re-brand. It’s the same story with the Easton Cycling EA90 AX dropper seat post, with two locking positions, up or down, running the same mechanical, cable-actuated design and rail clamp to boot. The key difference here is that this one comes in 27.2mm to fit the narrower diameter gravel bike seat tubes.
The EA90 AX slots into the line-up as the lighter, but more expensive option over Easton Cycling’s original EA70 AX dropper post (reviewed by Joe Mackey, here). It is available in 50mm and 70mm drop lengths with an overall length of 350mm and 370mm, respectively. Claimed weight for the 50mm drop option is 327g. The 70mm drop option weighs a little more at a claimed 339g. The cable can be attached from the dropper or lever end, making it compatible with pretty much any dropper lever on the market, but…
The more interesting news here, perhaps, is the introduction of the EA90 AX dropper seat post lever, made with drop-bar ergonomics in mind. The lever is intended to clamp at a position around half way down the drop. From here, two paddles extend from the clamp; one rearward, designed to be operated from the drops, and another forward in space, designed to be operated from the hoods.
The drop-bar dropper lever is said to be very easy to push or pull without compromising the rider’s hand position, whether they are riding on the drops or on the hoods. Easton tells us it can be mounted in such a way as to maintain great clearance for knuckles and the shifter.
