Back in April 2009, the mayor of London, Boris Johnson, announced his plan to make the city the electric vehicle capitol of Europe.  Two years down the road, Hertz is now on board doing their part by adding a fleet of full electric vehicles to their Marble Arch branch.  Included in that lineup are 12 electric bikes from Ultra Motor.  Hertz will rent you an electric folder called the Fast4ward Edge, or the more traditional A2B Hybrid 24.  With your electric bike rental, you will also receive training on how to operate the machine, a lock, a copy of the AA Leisure Guide to London with suggested bike rides, and an optional helmet.  The rentals run £20 (about $32) a day.

I’m glad to see electric “bicycles” are safe to ride without helmets.

Wish I could rent one of these in the US – people come to visit and they want to go biking with me, but they can’t keep up (usually because they’re not in as good of shape, sometimes because they don’t have their own bike, gear, pedals, clothing, etc with them). An electric-assist bike that I could get in any size would be fantastic for this kind of thing.
