One of the most sought after pieces of winter riding kit has to be the wet weather onesie. Updated for this winter is the Endura MT500 onesie. It gets new materials, a new cut, bigger vents and pockets and a two-way hood. In fact, Endura have updated their entire flagship MT500 wet weather riding collection for this season. Here’s a quick overview.
New Endura MT500 Waterproofs
The main update across the line is that Endura are now using a more durable and breathable base fabric called ExoShell40DR. It’s a 3-layer waterproof fabric and, as with previous generations of the MT500 range, it is coated with an environmentally friendly PFC free DWR.
The new MT500 waterproof jackets for men and women features stacks of pockets and venting options that double up as pockets. The adjustable hood can be worn over a helmet, or shrunk down so it fits when you’re not wearing a helmet too.
Rachel Atherton, six-time DH MTB World Champion, says about the MT500 Jacket: “I like the vents. If you’re climbing and it’s windy and drizzling, you’re still aerated and fresh. You can tie it around your waist, and it’s light enough to put in your bag. It’s perfect really…You can fit your pads on and your backplate, and you’re still comfortable to ride.”
Endura say the new MT500 II waterproof trousers and shorts have an on-bike articulated fit with stretch panels for unrestricted movement. They feature water-resistant hand pockets, an extra durable seat panel, knee pad compatible fit, and belt loops and zipped fly popper closure.
The MT500 Waterproof Trouser II has long, thigh height 2-way water repellent side zips which make the trousers easy to get on and off, with the top half of the zips doubling up as thigh vents with mesh gussets.
Gee Atherton says about the MT500 Jacket and MT500 Trousers: “And that satisfying feeling at the end of the day: you just like literally zip the jacket off, zip the sides up of the bottoms, and then even with your shoes on you can just put your trousers off, and you’re so clean underneath and so dry, it’s like you just got dressed – and you’ve just spent a whole day riding in them in the mud and in the rain!”
Endura MT500 MTB Onesie
The new Endura MT500 waterproof onesie for mountain biking rocks the new more durable fabric. It also has a new cut with the “jacket” tail now extending further down. A gusseted attachment to the waistband improves fit with less pulling on this crucial part allowing for more height accommodation.
The onesie now features more of a jacket and pants “separate” look. The heavily sprayed rear area also benefits from improved waterproofing.
Dan Atherton, former UK national champion and current passionate trail builder, says: “Honestly, no joke, I wake up in the morning and I put it on, and that’s me, all day. It’s surprisingly durable as well, not only to ride in but I’m working in it all day as well. So it’s getting a hammer as I’m on the diggers and carrying logs and basically giving it a thrashing, not just on the bike. It’s amazing.”
