Creators of ergonomic saddles, handlebar grips and gloves, Ergon, have added a mountain bike hip pack to their lineup for 2022. The Ergon BA Hip Pack has a 3 litre storage capacity with room for a 1.5L hydration pack, but there’s a bit more to it than that. Like most products from Ergon, the BA Hip Pack is well thought through, featuring a dial-operated compression system to cinch down your snacks and spares for rattle-free riding. Here’s more.
Ergon BA Hip Pack
We’ve high hopes for Ergon’s first attempt at an MTB Hip Pack, having been super impressed with the Ergon Women’s SM Saddle (that won Bikerumor Editor’s Choice Awards 2020), the Ergon GFR1 FMD Racing grips, and my current choice of grip, the GD1 variation. In our experience, they can be relied upon to produce quality products. The Ergon BA Hip Pack sports a number of clever features that caught our attention.
Notable is the unique compression system that relies upon a dial to cinch down on the contents of the pack, pulling it in close to the wearer’s lower back and hip area. This means that if the pack isn’t full to the brim, you can compress it down so that your snacks and spares aren’t free to rattle about as you ride. Simply reach around with one hand and twist the dial to tighten it up or loosen it off.
The wide hip belt should make for a comfortable fit, with mesh inserts providing a little ventilation at the sides. Apparently, the upper and lower edge of the hip belt can be individually tightened to provide an additional level of compression to secure the pack to the body. The Ergon BA Hip Pack is compatible with a 1.5 Litre hydration bladder, a hose port for which is provided on the right hand side, with a magnetic hose clip for stowage on the left. Inside the main pocket you’ll find two small discreet zippered pockets, one with a key clip, and a divider to separate your hydration bladder from the rest of your kit.
On the outside of the pack are a further two zippered pockets, one on each hip, said to be large enough for a cell phone, cash, snacks… you get the idea.

The Ergon BA 3L Hip Pack retails at $104.95 USD and is available in black only. It has a maximum weight limit of 3 KG with the following dimensions: 110 mm x 260 mm x 170 mm.
