After turning heads with its inaugural World Championship on the slopes of Mount Etna, Everesting is taking its altitude obsession to the heart of the Austrian Alps. The endurance community’s favorite sufferfest will now plant its flag in Villach, Carinthia, with Everesting Austria — a fully closed-road climbing event centered around the ascent of Mount Dobratsch.

What’s an Everest?

The premise of an Everest remains the same: ride one climb repeatedly until you’ve matched the height of Mount Everest — 8,848 meters (29,029 feet). On Dobratsch, that means seven and a half laps of a 16 km ascent, gaining roughly 1,200 meters per climb. The math checks out, and so does the suffering.

Dobratsch: Austria’s New Temple of Vertical

The course itself is as scenic as it is punishing. Riders will tackle a pristine mountain road — closed to all traffic for the duration of the event — offering sweeping views over Carinthia and the Julian Alps. Whether you’re chasing the full vertical or sampling a smaller dose, Dobratsch’s gradient delivers a proper test of legs and patience alike.

The event features a 19-hour cut-off window, ensuring riders of all abilities can chase their version of Everest safely, with no cars, no interruptions — just you, your bike, and a long stretch of alpine tarmac pointing skyward.

Everesting course formats

Four Formats, One Goal

Everesting Austria is built to welcome both first-timers and masochists. Riders can choose their challenge:

  • Eighth, Quarter, Half, or Full Everesting distances
  • Solo or Team categories (teams of 2, 4, or 8)
  • A fully closed course for uninterrupted climbing

The idea is simple — pick your Everest, and see how far you can go before the lights go out.

Basecamp, Music, and the Afterglow

Every good climb deserves a proper descent — or at least a party at the bottom. The event wraps with the Villach Basecamp Festival, featuring local food, live music, and that unmistakable Everesting vibe: equal parts exhaustion and elation.

Registration for Everesting Austria is now open, with early-bird pricing available until November 17 at everesting.com.

What’s Next for the Home of Elevation

Beyond Austria, Everesting’s global footprint continues to grow. The second Everesting World Championship returns to Mount Etna on September 26, 2026, and organizers have teased two or three more European climbs to join the series soon.

Whether you’re chasing a personal record or the summit of your own limits (you don’t even have to hit Everest’s elevation), Everesting Austria promises everything the brand stands for — community, suffering, and the shared joy of earning every vertical meter.
