Zen Bicycle Fabrications 29+

Always wanted your own line of bikes, but don’t have the engineering resources to make it happen? Zen Bicycle Fabrications is helping to make that a reality with their new line of Private Label designs. Already an established builder for other companies like Turner and Vassago, Zen is using their decades of experience in building awesome US made frames to offer Private label frames for small operations. Companies looking to sell a bike under their own name will now have a convertible trail fatbike and a CX bike to choose from with more bikes on the way.

See how you can create your own line after the break.

The idea behind the Private Label series, is that the bikes will be designed, built, and batch tested by Zen, but will allow the customer to use their own finishes and logos to complete the bike. There is a minimum of 10 units per design, but there are quantity discounts available. Zen also offers further customization of the Private Label series for an additional fee, if stock isn’t your thing.

The Private Label series kicks off with two models, the ZFB1.0 above, and ZCX1.0 below. The FB1 is a convertible trail fatbike – meaning it can run 29″, 29+, or fatbike wheels and tires all on the same frame. It’s constructed from 6061 US aluminum with a 100mm BB and 170mm rear end with a 44mm/56mm PF tapered head tube and 30.9 seat tube. Adjustable dropouts allow for the multiple wheel sizes, while keeping the tire tucked into the chainstays as much as possible. Four sizes will be offered from 15″ to 21″ frames.

The ZCX1.0 is all about racing cyclocross. Crafted from Zen’s own ZR1 race specific tubeset design, the 6061 light weight tubeset is butted and drawn for the best power transfer while keeping the weight low. The frame has a 44t single front chainring compatibility as well as a PF30 BB that allows for it to be run single speed with a BB conversion. Cantilever or disc versions are available with room for 38mm tires and mud. The CX1 is offered in 6 sizes from 48 to 62cm.

More frame designs are already on the way, with availability of both of these frames by October (the CX will be available in Sept.) Contact Zen Bicycle Fab for more details.

Loving the CX offering. Not just a ‘blah’ geometry but some really tight stays for those who want a full on race rocket of a climber and are happy to have a purpose built bike for races (will not be much of a commuter/winter trainer – which is fine as there are so many of those around anyway). Aluminum is still a very viable material and customers of Zens will have better and quicker response than dealing with overseas makers to get frames done ‘just’ how they like.

Also, perhaps of greatest importance these frames should be pin point perfect and straight! As any frame builder will tell you, next to safety nothing is as important as the frame being perfectly true!

XOXO
