Just over a year ago Fizik reshaped their pressure relief saddle lineup with Versus Evo iterations of their core Arione, Antares & Aliante road saddles. While offering extra comfort,  some riders wanted lighter weight & less flex. So Fizik has adapted the deep cutout Versus Evo concept onto their premium lightweight, hi-mod carbon 00 level saddles too…

In the new 00-level saddle range, you get the same pressure relief benefits due to the deep cutout, but now it is on top of the high modulus carbon shell and Fizik’s one-piece Möbius Loop carbon rails. The result is maximum stiffness, no unwanted flex, lighter weight, and of course a bigger pricetag.

Very pretty and very uncomfortable in real life. Plus, if you’re anywhere over 80 kilo’s, the R3 variant will break.

FWIW I have an arione R1 versus and it’s the most comfortable saddle I’ve ever had (and I’ve had a lot of saddles). Saddles are entirely personal, you just have to find the one you like. I’ve ridden an Aliante also, and it is the most uncomfortable saddle I’ve ever ridden.

Mine WAS an Aliante, indeed.

So more money and same weight as most s-works saddles, but with ZERO science behind it. Just putting a channel in a poorly designed saddle does nothing. I bet that hard plastic bit that protrudes from the nose feels great too…

I had 5 minute tests a friend’s Antares R1 Versus EVO.
Having experience with older Fizik saddle, Versus EVO is entirely different.
While other Fizik saddle have stiff shell. The R1 Versus EVO’s shell flex and sag a lot more. Quite near the level of Brook saddle to be honest.

I see it as another option for people who want extra flexy saddle.

Sagging saddles has been proven to cause lack of bloodflow…

Shortest one is still 275mm…
Seems like FIzik do not want to follow short saddle train after Specialized Power, Prologo Dimension, Selle Italia SP-01 Boost, Shimano Pro Stealth saddle, etc.

Fizik could cut more weight by removing a triangle of material in the back between the two padded sections and trimming the shell more flush. Especially how it is accentuated on the Arione that does nothing except discourage its use on MTBs.

Designed on napkins at happy hour. Lots of engineering in the construction, but no true experiments and analysis placed on the actual shape. Their whole “bull” “chameleon” “snake” thing is just that – bull.
