Focus JAM 8 updates playful 150mm all-mountain trail bike, now in carbon too!

Focus has added a new premium JAM Carbon option to their popular and playful 150mm 29er all-mountain bike.  Debuted last spring in alloy, the Jam now gets a lighter carbon option to take on any trail terrain, and any type of mountain bike riding.

They call it the new toy on the shelf…

These next-gen Jams shift up with bigger wheels & travel towards more aggressive riding  (up from 140mm & 27.5 wheels of the past Jam).

More aggressive geometry, new flip-chip adjustability, bigger wheels & tires… just like the alloy version last year, this new Jam Carbon is a big step up from the previous generation, a bike that’s much more capable than ever as the big brother to their Thon trail bike.

JAM Geometry & FOLD suspension

The new Jam Carbon gets the same modern long & much slacker geometry upgrade as the alloy bike. Available in four 29er sizes (S-XL) the carbon bike gets a 65°/65.5° headtube, 44mm offset forks, and a forward position on the bike for stable, but playful descending.

Combine that with a steep 76/76.5° effective seat angle to pedal back uphill better, too.

Plus, the addition of a flip-chip at the lower shock mount gives more geo adjustability.

Focus says this new generation of Jam all-mountain bikes got all-new suspension kinematics to match the slacker geometry and more aggressive terrain. The upgraded Focus Optimized Linkage Design (F.O.L.D.) now offers “more progression for better bottom-out resistance and more feedback from the trail”, swapping from 2-phase to a fully progressive curve.

Tech details

The Jam Carbon is built up with a carbon front triangle, the same 3D-forged alloy shock links of the aluminum bikes, and the same one-piece 7005 alloy rear end. Complete bike weights suggest you likely only save at most 500g over the all-aluminum bikes

Now hidden inside the downtube, an push-button I.C.S. (Internal Compartment Solution) port opens up to store a long internal tool bag for regular spares. Plus, there’s a new downtube protector, too.

The new carbon bike now gets fully internal cable routing through Focus’ C.I.S. (Cockpit Integration Solution) stem faceplate & oversized 1.5″ headset.

The Jam Carbon gets Boost 148 spacing, sealed bearings at all suspension & shock pivots, a BSA threaded bottom bracket, chain guide, 31.6mm dropper seatposts, post mount 180mm rear brake, and clearance for 29 x 2.4″ tires.

Focus Jam Carbon – Options, pricing & availability

Just two complete bikes are being offered with the new carbon frame (plus three builds with the all-alloy frameset).

The top £4800 /4700€ Jam 8.9 gets a Shimano XT 1×12 drivetrain, 4-piston XT brakes, and Fox 36 Performance & Float X suspension, at a claimed 15.8kg in blue green.

And the £3700 / 3700€ Jam 8.8 opts for mechanical SRAM NX Eagle and RockShox Revelation RC& Deluxe Select+ suspension, at 15.3kg carbon raw silk.
