The name for Neutron Components first product says it all. The O.S.K., or Oh Shit Kit, is tucked neatly into your handlebar, always there to get you out of a jam. The latest in a growing trend of hidden, always-there multi tools, the OSK comes to us via Aotearoa, New Zealand.
Designed to fit standard handlebars with an inner diameter of 19-21mm, the OSK uses two different sets of o-rings to slightly adjust the fit. Like most of these tools, they’ll work best with grips that have open ends since you need to be able to access the end of the bars to get to the tool. Some grips with closed ends can be modified to work, but for the best results Neutron recommends lock-ons with open ends.
The full OSK includes inserts for both sides of the handlebar with a wrench on one side and the chain tool on the other. The main tool body and bar end plugs are made out of a composite material to keep the weight down which results in a total system weight under 150g.
The wrench body includes a built-in tire lever and bottle opener, plus a socket to use the included 1/4″ bits which are stashed inside storage pockets in the tool. Included with the tool are 2.5, 3, 4, 5, and 6mm hex drivers, a T25 torx driver, and a #1 Phillips driver. There’s also a valve core tool and spoke wrench with 3.2, 4.3, 3.6, and 4.3mm openings.
The chain tool is stashed inside the other end of the bar and is a simple screw driven chain breaker that requires a 3mm Allen wrench to use. The body of the tool is cast steel with a high-tensile steel screw.
All of the configurations include your choice of bar plugs which are available in seven different colors.
The OSK can be purchased as a complete kit with both the wrench and the chain tool for $89. Everything is also available separately with the wrench for $69, the chain breaker for $25, and replacement parts available for $4-15. Note that all prices are listed in New Zealand Dollars (NZD), so the $89 OSK is closer to $53 USD.
Neutron Components states that while the country of New Zealand is currently under a Covid-19 lockdown, they are taking pre-orders now that will ship as soon as they are allowed to resume business. At that point, they will be offering flat rate shipping to anywhere in the world for $10.
