  • Race Sea Otter Classic for FREE by helping get kids on bikes. When you raise $500 for one of their two favorite kids’ bike charities, Specialized First Gear will cover your Sea Otter race fee and give you a free First Gear riding kit. More info here.
  • Then donate your race entry: Trips For Kids of WNC are $1000 short of what they need to purchase a trailer to haul bikes so that they can introduce more kids to mountain biking. If you want to help them reach their goal, email Stephen here.
  • More good cycling stuff for kids: Rollapaluza, known for their revival of roller-racing in the UK, has launched a new Social Enterprise “Rollapaluza Outreach“. More known for their night-time events, the Rollapaluza team already visits around 50 schools a year taking the full Rollapaluza experience into the classroom and sports-hall with music and MC to whip up excitement and get kids engaged in cycling.
  • The 4th annual Rocky Mountain Bicycle Festival will be held at INVESCO field in Denver, Colorado, 11-12 June. The two-day festival features a mix of large and small manufacturers, including: Cinelli, Specialized and a regional handmade contingent, headlined by local builders Black Sheep Bikes and DEAN.
  • After suffering neck-down paralyzing injuries during a training run in 2000, former motocross champion and Yamaha factory rider Jimmy Button has made a remarkable recovery and will be riding his bicycle from Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, CA, (the site of his crash) to Daytona Beach, FL, to raise money and awareness for spinal cord damage research. You can check out the story at MilesforMiraclesToday.com and enter to win a moto bike or road bike as well as donate to the cause. Video after the break.
  • RECALL!!! The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has recalled several models 2011 Felt Adult bicycles. The bike’s fork can break and cause a rider to lose control.  The bikes costs from $1,400 to $5,000 and were sold nationwide at specialty stores. Also, about 160 REI Novara Fusion Bicycles are being recalled because the steerer tube detaches from the bicycle’s fork. REI exclusively sold the bikes, priced from $600 to $900, in its stores and on its website.
  • Jorge Peredo, president of the Puerto Rico Bicycle Coalition, says this week’s car-bike collision of their U.S. legislator highlights the need for better bicycle safety and infrastructure in P.R. The PRBC is a member-supported, not-for-profit organization whose membership promotes ‘happiness on two wheels’ for P.R. and turn it into a bicycle-friendly place, where bicycles are used as a cleaner, healthier, more economical and more sustainable mode of transport.
