  • Save the trails in Pisgah in North Carolina!! There is a possibility that parts of Pisgah will be designated as “wilderness areas” and mountain bikes will be forbidden. Of particular concern are the South Mills and Davidson River areas near the Pisgah Forest community. Today (February 27th) is the last day for public comment so go to this link on SORBA to submit your comments.
  • Southern Cross Ultra Gravel Grind has been rescheduled to March 14, 2015 due to Storm Damage in North Georgia. On Monday, February 16th, North Georgia was hit with freezing rain that has caused considerable damage in some areas, particularly the National Forest land being utilized for the course. REGISTRATION IS OPEN until 8 pm on Wednesday March 11th!
  • Connecting a Town with Singletrack Sidewalks. Our friends at Outside Online posted this article about the town of Eagle Colorado and their plan to make their town more “mountain bike-able”.
  • Strider Bikes Announces 2015 National Championship Racing Series for Toddlers. There will be races for 2-, 3-, 4-, and 5-year olds at each event. Here are the four dates: Saturday, April 25: Bradenton, FL, Saturday, May 9: Ventura, CA, Saturday, June 6: Pittsburgh, PA and Saturday, August 8: Salt Lake City, UT. • Tuscany’s famed L’Eroica vintage bike ride will be coming to the United States for the first time in its nineteen year history this spring. After visiting this past fall, L’Eroica creator Giancarlo Brocci himself chose Paso Robles as the location for the first L’Eroica in the United States. The event will be April 10-12, 2015, with registration limited to 1000 riders and a cost of $150 per-entrant. Visit eroicacalifornia.com for more information.
  • Ride Local with Jamis Bicycles at the Farm to Fork Fondo in Vermont! The mass-participation cycling ride will be held July 12, 2015, at Riverside Farm in Pittsfield, Vermont, with 500 participants expected from throughout North America. For more details visit the Farm to Fork Fondo – Vermont web site.
  • And if you’d prefer to ride in France then perhaps you should check out  Trek Travel’s “Legends Series” Featuring Special Guest Pro Cyclists Andy Schleck and Jens Voigt. As part of this series, Andy Schleck will join the Etape du Tour trip during the Tour de France while Voigt will join Tour de France Alps to Paris Ultimate VIP race experience. For further information contact Trek Travel at 1-866-464-8735 or visit trektravel.com.
  • Attention Mountain Bikers: You have a personal invitation from the Polish Mountainbikers Alliance (POMBA) to ride the varied trails in that beautiful country. You may need to brush up on your Polish but visit the Alliance’s Facebook page anyway to see photos of just how good the riding is.
  • The Mongoose team has added mountain bike slopestyle and dirt jump rider, DJ Brandt its roster of talented athletes. The 21-year-old Denver, Colorado native joins fellow slopestyle and dirt jumpers Greg Watts and Mike Montgomery, as well as top trials rider Chris Akrigg. Visit Facebook.com/MongooseBikes for the latest from the brand and its team riders.
  • In last week’s Friday RoundUp our headline was about peer-to-peer global bike sharing site Spinlister. Well, it was brought to our attention that there’s another app called Spokefly that does the bike rental thing as well, albeit a bit differently. Instead of you contacting the bike owner directly, you simply use the app to pick a bike to ride and go to its location and unlock it. You may then ride it anywhere and not have to return it to the spot where you originally got it. Visit the Spokefly site for details and how you can make money by putting one of your bikes into service.
  • If you’re a triathlete who is looking for new (to you) gear or if you have a bike to sell then be sure to check out the new Cyclone site. They’ve done a major redesign of the site and added many new features to make it more user friendly. Focusing entirely on premium quality, high-value pre-owned bicycles from around the world, the online marketplace allows its customers to easily search and sell via a specialist catalogue.
  • We want to send our get well wishes to Debra Banks of Rivet Cycle Works. Several weeks ago Debra was out on a road ride with friends when she and some of the other riders were struck by a drunk driver. Unfortunately Debra suffered a severely busted ankle requiring 7 hours of surgery. She’ll be off the bike for a while and also won’t be able to make it to NAHBS as she cannot put weight on that ankle. Get well Debra, and we hope you’re back on the saddle real soon.
