Earlier this spring we got a sneak peek at the new carbon Genesis Zero SL road bike being raced by the Madison Genesis Team. In the meantime MGT rider Connor Swift, the first to race the bike’s prototype, went on to solo a win at the British National Championships on the new ride. So Genesis decided that Swift deserved a custom paint job to match his new national champion’s jersey. Plus good news for the rest of us, a Team Edition frameset of the new Zero SL is also now available from Genesis…

Genesis seems to have offered Swift free rein with his new bike design. They sent him to the imaginative master bike painter Doktor Bobby (aka Rob Nicholas) of Colourburn Studios, who took a few cues for “a bit more colour” from Swift and ran with them.
Swift says, “having seen Rob’s previous work on Instagram, I knew that he is a man that you can trust to let the crayons go on a custom paint job.”
“I didn’t want a standard, plain national champion coloured bike.”
Beyond the champ’s red, white & blue stripes, a bit of paint splatter took over the whole design. Actually the entire bike gets splattered. Red & blue drips cover the back end, while more subtle gray specks sit on top of the white base, as if the bike has been raced in the rain.
Swift did ask for a few details like his home Yorkshire rose, the toptube target & date of his championship win, plus the motivational quote on the stem.
“Finally Rob had said if I wanted my name on the bike to be done in gold. I asked for Swifty to be put on the right side of the top tube where a normal frame name sticker would go as that’s my nickname.”

2019 Genesis Zero SL Team Edition frameset pricing & availability
The Madison Genesis Team Edition of the Zero SL in more standard team blue, red & black can now be purchased through your friendly local Genesis dealer. Just ask nicely. The frame, fork, headset & seatpost clamp will set you back £1,600, and are available in a five size range (XS-XL). No complete bikes are available yet, but expect a slightly more affordable layup version of the frame to be built up with an Ultegra groupset for the 2019 model year.
