For whatever reason, there seems to be an abundance of new drop bar videos that hit the web this week. Rather than your typical highlights from a road race, crit, or cross course, these videos seem to skew towards the, uh, more radical side of drop bars. Case in point – Szymon Godziek’s backflip over the Tour de Pologne peloton in Poland. This isn’t the first time a rider has gapped the peloton, but halfway through the video you realize that he’s on a road bike…
Godziek’s backflip wasn’t the only excitement at the Tour of Pologne. Somewhere along the course of the sixth stage, a miniature pony made its way onto the road and joined the peloton. The internet was on the spot and didn’t disappoint with a name for the new contender – Pony Gallopin, though Tony Gallopin could probably take the pony in a break.
If death defying, controversial videos are your thing, you’re going to love the new clip from 100% Vittorio Brumotti. Pushing the limits of road bike trials (is that an official category yet?), Brumotti rides some absolutely terrifying lines somewhere near the Grand Canyon. It should go without saying that you shouldn’t try this at home – not just because one small mistake and you’re dead, but because the stunt is of questionable legality. It’s possible that the video was filmed outside of the park’s boundaries, but many people have pointed out that riding a bike off trail and filming with a drone are illegal in a National Park. Fortunately, I can’t think of too many people who would actually give this a try…
Finally, Chris Akrigg is back with his latest clip featuring the new Mongoose Guide. When we last saw Chris in Madison, he said he had a new edit on the way featuring something completely new – and he has delivered as usual. Chris still manages to throw in a few trials moves (and proves that even on drop bars he’s super human), but the raw clip does a great job of capturing the fun of new adventure bikes like the Guide.
