Giro have teamed up with Héctor Saura of Bicycle Nightmares to lift the lid on a new riding apparel collection, including a helmet, jersey, goggles, gloves and socks, inspired by the freeride mountain biking lifestyle and culture. The simple, dark and heavy metal-influenced designs are of Saura’s own, whose aim was to create something alternative to race-inspired pyjamas and lycra team kits, to be worn on trail rides, dirt jumping and in the skate park. The Bicycle Nightmares collection is stealth, and those who like to ride all black are going to love it. Grab a cuppa and watch Saura shred street and singletrack.
Giro x Bicycle Nightmares Tyrant MTB helmet
Heading up the Giro x Bicycle Nightmares collection is the ‘progressive’ Giro Tyrant MTB helmet, a better ventilated evolution of Giro’s successful Switchblade, but without the detachable chinbar. The Tyrant, fitted with MIPS rotational impact protection system, was released earlier this year in Matte Black, Black Hypnotic, Citron Hero and Matte True Spruce colorways. Now, the Bicycle Nightmares colorway is available, but just another colorway it most certainly isn’t. In Gloss Black with Chrome logos, leather ear pads and heavy metal inspired artwork on the inner liner, it looks stealth.
Bicycle Nightmares Blok Goggles
The special edition Giro Bicycle Nightmares Blok MTB goggles with Zeiss optics have a two-tone finish, matte and gloss, to blend in with the helmet design. They get low contrast heavy metal artwork with a silicon Giro logo which can also be found on the Bicycle Nightmares Jersey.
Giro x BN Roust Riding Jersey
Instead of plastering the threads in advertising, Soura has gone for an understated look with minimal branding. The low-contrast bold heavy metal artwork give the jersey a retro look.
Giro x BN Leather MTB Gloves
The most original piece in this collection is the riding gloves, which didn’t exist prior to this collaboration between Giro and Soura. The Outsider gloves take the upper part of Giro’s DND gloves, the palm of their Rivet II gloves and the leather and tag of the LX LF gloves to create gloves especially for dirt jumpers and trail riders who don’t like to wear gloves. Interesting concept!
Rounding off the collection are socks and a T-Shirt styled with Soura’s interpretation of a heavy metal band’s album cover. The same artwork is what can be found on the Tyrant helmet pads and the Blok goggle strap.
Pricing & Availability
Priced identically to the rest of the Tyrant collection, the Giro Bicycle Nightmares version comes in at $170. The Blok MTB goggles will set you back $80 while The Outsider gloves will cost you $45. The Nightmares Jersey is priced $10 more than the other colorways, at $80. The collection will be available online from Dec 9.
