Over the last 10 days of racing at the Giro d’Italia, plus the pre-race prep and a pair of rest days, Team Sunweb has been putting together a series of behind-the-scenes videos to get a taste of what it is to race a Grand Tour. So far they’ve put together some pretty interesting content like following riders Phil Bauhaus & Chad Haga each for a fully 24 hours with a camera to really get a sense of what this type of day-after-day racing affects the riders. They also get a bit more technical with video topics like what all the team has to bring in the way of equipment to support a full line-up of riders over a three-week tour, and what the pro team mechanics get up to while the riders are out pedaling around. Check out these videos and more after the break. And we expect that there might be some more pink shaded coverage from tomorrow on since Tom Domoulin (that’s him in that photo above) just took over the Maglia Rosa after winning today’s 10th stage in the ITT…
Follow Phil Bauhaus for a full day of racing at the Giro d’Italia.
And why not see what Chad Haga is up to for his own 24 hours of Italian Grand Tour racing.
A look inside the daily life of a top-level professional mechanic team at one of the most important races of the year.
How does the team prepare for the Giro’s time trial.
Does it really take a truck load or two of gear to keep Team Sunweb riding for the three weeks of the Giro?
What do the mechanics do with all of those bikes in between stages; do they just get chucked in a team van overnight?
Keep up to date with the team for the next half of the race, with 11 more race days left over on their Youtube page. There you’ll already find more of what it takes in the life of a coach at the Giro, a day’s wrap up with a pro after a tough early race crash, and what everyone gets up to on the rest days and in the evenings after racing is done.
Update:
Here’s 24 more hours with Tom Dumoulin in the lead up to his taking the Maglia Rosa in the time trial.
