If you have been contemplating the purchase of a GoPro, especially after the recent introduction of the LCD BacPac, perhaps you have done the math on recording time and come away slightly confused. If the camera only supports up to 2 hours of run time with the included battery, why support up to a 32gb SD card which will far outlast the battery for recording, even at the highest 1080p setting?

The answer to that very question, comes with the release of GoPro’s newest add on, the Battery BacPac. Effectively doubling the GoPro’s run time, the Battery BacPac will surely come in handy for those multiple hour back country film sessions.

In addition to physically plugging into the back of the GoPro to increase run time, the Battery BacPac also serves as a charger for spare GoPro batteries. This doesn’t sound like that great of a feature, until you consider the fact that up until this point, the only way to charge a GoPro battery was to install it into the camera and pug it into your computer. Now, you can leave your spare battery charging while you’re out shredding, and come back mid ride to swap out batteries and go back to being a Hero.

What comes with the new Battery BacPac, and for how much? Find out after the break!

Battery BacPac Features

  • Attaches to the back of the 1080p HD HERO camera, allowing for up to 2X* extended record times
  • Plugs into any USB charging source to charge your spare HD HERO batteries. Charges 960p and 1080p HD HERO camera batteries
  • Built in LED lights indicate battery power status

What’s Included:

  • 1 Battery BacPac
  • 1 Li-Ion Battery
  • 1 Waterproof Door for HD HERO Housing
  • 1 Skeleton Door for HD HERO Housing
  • 1 USB Cable
  • Warranty: One Year

All this, for just $49.99. Sure, it’s more than a few AA batteries, but for those who are out to use their GoPros for more than 2 hours, the payoff is worth the extra coin. Battery BacPacs are available now from GoPro directly, or from your local GoPro Retailer.
