HED Vanquish GP lowers price on US-made, next gen wide aero road wheels

HED adds to their fast Vanquish aero carbon wheel family with two updated Grand Prix disc brake wheelsets, saving the modern road rider some cash. HED Vanquish Grand Prix aero carbon road wheels

HED’s carbon GP wheels use the same rim shapes as the original Vanquish, updating the modern road racer for wide tire aerodynamics. They’re a further nail in the coffin of conventionally minded skinny tire riders, HED says the new V4GP & V6GP also clock in low drag numbers across 23-28mm tires thanks to their wider rim profile.

Both rim depths share the same maximal 30mm outside width, and a hooked 21mm internal bead, and can be set up tubeless to lower rolling resistance as well.

Now cheaper than the original Vanquish, the new Vanquish GP wheels share the same rim profiles, with lower cost GP Disc hubsets & lower prices bladed Sapim spokes. The V4GP uses a 40mm deep, 30mm wide aero profile, with claimed wheel weights of 770g front & 919g rear (1689g wheelset), adding just 178g over the more expensive V4.

HED V6GP details

The V4GP gets the same cost trimming measures in a more aero 60mm depth, again 30mm wide, with claimed wheel weights of 790g front & 940g rear (1730g wheelset), just 99g more than the V6. The deeper 80mm V8 does not get a low cost GP version.

Both depth wheelsets share the same pricing – $950 for front wheels & $1000 for the rear – mix & match or buy them as paired wheelsets. Front & rear are built 2X with 24 J-bend black Sapim XC-Sprint bladed spokes, alloy nipples, and matte black HED GP alloy hubs. The centerlock HED GP hubs are available with QR, 12mm & 15mm thru-axles up front and 12mm thru or QR in the back. The lower cost hubs (vs. the 545 hubs on the premium Vanquish) feature 4-pawls & 27 tooth engagement, and they are available with just Shimano HG or SRAM XDR freehub bodies.

The carbon HED Vanquish GP rims are still manufactured in Minnesota, then hand built into complete wheels. HED recommends them for use with 23-45mm wide tires
