You didn’t have to be a Wilier fan, or even a fan of road bikes for that matter, for the Superleggera to stop you dead in your tracks. The gleaming frame treatment stood out like a beacon of beautiful simplicity against a sea of carbon bikes. Of course Wilier had those too, but it was certainly the Superleggera that was drawing those that passed into the booth.

The limited Italian made beauty stood as the gateway to a few new models of the carbon variety inside…

Wilier Triestina may today be known more for their carbon creations, but the Superleggera pays homage to the brand’s history which dates back to 1906. Part of a family of three models made from Columbus Niobium SL steel tubing, the lugged frames will be offered in red, black, and the Ramato copper finish shown here. Dating back to the 1940’s, we’re told the finish process is more similar to chrome plating than paint. Building up to about 17lbs with a Campy Record group, the Superleggera is offered in a full size run from 48-60cm and will run $3000 for the Ramato frame.

The GTR Team Disc sees the addition of flat mount disc brakes front and rear as well as the use of thru axles. The 46/30Ton carbon frame includes a number of aerodynamic tweaks, 28mm tire clearance, and uses a PF86 bottom bracket and internal routing for mechanical and electronic drivetrains. As shown, the GTR Team Disc will sell for $3,349 complete.

The other news was the combination of the GTR and GTS lines for the new GTR which will replace the Zero.9. The new range will include the GTR Superleggera SL, GTR Team, and GTR. At the high end, the SL frame uses 60t carbon for a 990g race ready frame while the Team and GTR models go with a blend of 46/30t for a frame weight of 1190g. Frame details include a 27.2 seatpost, PF86 bottom bracket, internal cable routing, and 28mm tire clearance. All three models are deigned with aerodynamics, ride quality, and value in mind with pricing ranging from $2299 to $4749.

I love that copper finish. That bike is screaming for NOS record and some ambrosio or similar.

Definitely needs something really retro. Nuovo Record perhaps? For that money burning a hole in your pocket, how about a 50th anniversary groups?

I loved those tinted chrome finishes on Italian bikes from the mid-80s. I had a Scapin that had a green chrome finish and lusted after a red Razesa frame. I’d also be willing to wager a large sum of money that it rights much nicer than the disc equipped carbon wonder bike! Just adding disc brakes to a fork pretty much kills much of the forks ability to absorb road shock.

Yeah, the GTR Team Disc is nice in concept, but some of the parts choices to hit the price point strike me as odd…those 105 “ish” cranks in particular.

Love the copper, and I’d even put out the effort to strip the paint off the new Campy and polish it up like the original jewelry grouppos of old… Outstanding.
