Intend is the kind of mountain bike component workshop where everything they create just makes you want to ride your bike harder, and the return of their machined alloy Rocksteady cranks is no different. Developed & manufactured entirely in Germany, the gravity-ready aluminum Rocksteady crankset could be the perfect upgrade for enduro or all-mountain riders who are hard on their bikes.

While we most often are drooling over the unique forks & newer rear suspension that Cornelius Kapfinger produces in the small Intend Bicycle Components workshop in Freiburg, Germany, Intend also produces a number of other small-batch mountain bike components together with local machinists. The Rocksteady is apparently a golden oldie, back after a long time away and ready to hit the trail again.

Intend says they have just three essential features:

    1. They’re solid
    2. They look awesome.
    3. They are cranks.

The Intend Rocksteady is a burly 3-piece mountain bike crankset that Kapfinger engineered and has machined out of a high-strength billet of 7075 aluminum in Germany’s Black Forest. He then assembles each crankset by hand around the 30mm axle.

The 170mm cranks are designed to work with direct mount RaceFace Cinch standard chainrings, feature a narrow 166mm Q-factor, and work with 30mm bottom brackets with 95-99mm outer widths (K-factor). The cranks secure the ring with a Shimano Hollowtech II BB wrench, and its axle with a standard 20T BB wrench, plus a single non-driveside pinch bolt.

A complete crankset (two arms, axle, bolt & lockring) has a claimed weight of 586g, with no stated rider weight limit and rated for everything from trail to freeride mountain biking.

Those cranks are beautiful, and the best thing about them is they are CNC machined, personally I don’t like the black components and nice and shiny.
