Following in the footsteps of the new Heckler, Santa Cruz has just introduced their newest 27.5″ platform, the Bantam. Based on the same geometry and 125mm travel of the Solo, the Bantam brings 27.5″ wheels to the table in an affordable, aluminum, single pivot package.

The Bantam rounds out a number of 27.5″ from SC, see where it slots in after the break.

Not everyone wants or needs the most high tech wonder bikes. Some riders like Henry O’Donnell prefer things to be kept simple so they spend more time on their bike and building sweet trails, than repairing their bike. Santa Cruz says, “You can follow the work of Henry and the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship folk at: sierratrails.org, or find out more about trail building projects in your area at: imba.com.”

The Bantam will be offered in Satin black, or Gloss Green and will initially be offered in two builds. The D AM Bantam will retail for $2599 while the R AM Bantam goes for $2899, both bikes are speced with the Rockshox Sektor Gold RL 130mm fork. D kits will include a mostly Shimano Deore 3×10 drivetrain with Avid Elixir 1 brakes, and the R kit will bump up to an SLX/Deore 3×10 mix with Deore disc brakes. Weight is quoted at 30.19 lbs (13.69kg)  for the D and 30.14 lbs for the R.

Bantams will be offered in S-XL frames with a 68° HTA and 17.1″ chainstay. Check out Santa Cruz Bicycles for more.

SC needs to create a daily special/new release app for its dealers.

Neat. Basically a 650b Nickel without the “APP” nonsense. Would make a great 1×10 play bike.

APP is not nonsense. It was stiffer and rode better. But did cost too much and added weight for an inconsequential improvement.

“You know what I could really f–kin’ do without? 650B. What a pain in the ass that’s going to be.”

it was true! you know how busy we’ve been since that interview designing new bikes? Its ridiculous. Back in the day we introduced one or two models per year, took “testing” trips to tahoe and moab and whistler. Then there’s a backlog of rad new bikes to make. My life is so hard you just don’t understand.

@Jake

Relax man. I didn’t make I comment. But, I must admit, I do find it funny.
