Kids Ride Shotgun, better known for their top tube-mounted shotgun child seats, have finally launched the Dirt Hero Balance Bike. In the brand’s eyes, the Dirt Hero represents the next phase in a kid’s riding journey, giving them the freedom to ride singletrack themselves for the very first time. We’ve seen the Dirt Hero up-close a few times now; our verdict? It is a feature-packed and incredibly well thought-through Balance Bike.
We are told, “Every aspect has been considered to ensure kids have the best possible experience when advancing from the driveway to the dirt”.
Kids Ride Shotgun Dirt Hero Balance Bike
The Kids Ride Shotgun Dirt Hero Balance Bike is designed for children aged 2-5 years, and has adjustable dropouts allowing for the fitment of 12″ or 14″ wheels. So, as your child grows, so can this Balance Bike. The brand is calling it a “scaled down enduro machine”. As such, it is appropriately fitted with high-volume knobbly tires from Vee Tire Co and a Magura MT4 rear disc brake with rotor guard. The brake runs the HC1 lever, the reach of which can be adjusted for small hands.
Yes, the Dirt Hero is a Balance Bike, but a removable foot pad does offer opportunity for some feet-up riding.
“We’ve noticed a growing number of balance bike families hitting the trails, but we know it can be hard for parents to find a runner bike that’s up to the task. That’s why we set out to create a bike that would open up riding off-road for balance bike kids, enabling them to experience the stoke of mountain biking from an earlier age.” – Dan, Co-Founder.
Pricing & Availability
The Kids Ride Shotgun Dirt Hero Balance Bike retails at $340 USD; that’s with the 12″ wheelset and without the Magura brake. The 14″ wheelset and disc brake are optional extras.
