The original Pivot V2 made some key upgrades from the brand’s first swing-away hitch extender, but the new Kuat Pivot XD beefs things up for the overland crowd’s never-ending desire to bring more gear along for the ride.

Designed to handle an additional 100 pounds of cargo, they’re also introducing two off-road inspired accessories to fill that space between your bikes and your car.

Grab the MOLLE panel hoop, which conveniently leans inward toward the vehicle to increase the amount of space between it and the bikes, to carry traction boards, fuel/water canisters, or anything else you want.

Add the spare tire carrier and it’ll transport your extra off-road tire instead, keeping it out of your vehicle (and making it easier to access than having it under your rig, assuming it even fits since you’ve probably up-sized).

As for the swing-away hitch mount itself, here’s what you need to know:

  • Heavy-duty steel construction
  • Pressed ball-bearing pivot
  • Forged latch w/ oversized handle
  • 350lbs payload capacity
  • Swings open a full 120º
  • Locks at 90º and 120º
  • Weight is 68lbs
  • Class III 2″ hitch minimum
  • MSRP is $798

The extension adds about 15″ of space between your rack and vehicle, so it’s probably best limited to adding a 2-bike rack. Burly as it is, it’s not recommended for RV use, towing, or with upright/vertical/hanging bike racks.

Available soon (launch date TBA), you can get on the wait list on their website.
