Press Release: Until November 1st, for every 1000 ‘Likes’ of its official Facebook page, Specialized Bicycles will donate a bike to CYCLE Kids, a non-profit battling obesity and inactivity among youth. For every ten bikes they receive, CYCLE Kids can start a cycling program at a school, positively impacting the lives of 150 kids or more each year.
Specialized will present all the bikes at the CYCLE Kids conference on November 4th 2010 on behalf of all its Facebook fans. Thanks to its current fan base, that’s 30 bikes donated today alone! Don’t forget to click ‘Like’ on the Iamspecialized Facebook page and share with your friends!
More info after the break.
Julianne Idlet, Executive Director of CYCLE Kids had this to say about her partnership with Specialized:
“Partnering with Specialized has guaranteed a supply of top quality bikes that children in the Somerville schools are excited to ride. With the support from Specialized nationally we were able to get the help we needed to give CYCLE Kids programs to all the elementary schools in the City of Somerville, impacting the lives of over 350 students in the 5th grade in just the first year. Working with Specialized will ensure the ongoing success of the CYCLE Kids program as we grow nationally.â€
Ian Dewar, USA Partnership Manager at Specialized is excited about the promotion:
“Specialized is proud to partner with CYCLE Kids and to help our local dealers forge a lasting link into their community. Teaching Kids to ride and to live healthy lives is a first start in creating an environment that promotes cycling to everyone. We could not have picked a better partner to launch our Likes for Bikes programâ€
The Specialized Traction Program
The Specialized Traction Program was created for one simple purpose: to put kids on bikes. Specialized believes that life is better on a bike and that every child deserves the chance to experience it. Give a child a shot and greatness will follow – whether that’s standing atop a podium or discovering an active, joyful life.
CYCLE Kids
The CYCLE Kids mission is to get children on bicycles and engage them in a physical activity that addresses the health and emotional issues facing today’s under-active, often overweight children. Our program encourages confidence, curiosity, and independence, supports efforts to live more environmentally conscious lifestyles, and teaches children a skill they will have for a lifetime.
