We first set eyes on the new LIMAR Alpe full face enduro helmet at Eurobike 2019, where it was pitched as an ultralight weight option for youth riders. At the time, it wasn’t clear whether the Alpe would be convertible, with a detachable chin bar. While it certainly looks like it could be, it isn’t. Available in one size only, for head circumferences of 54cm to 60cm, the LIMAR Alpe looks likely to appeal to more than just youth riders.
LIMAR Alpe Full Face Enduro Helmet
At 540g, the LIMAR Alpe is without a doubt a very lightweight full face helmet, but it isn’t actually comparable to many others. For a start, it doesn’t offer MIPS or another MIPS-like rotational impact protection system. Nor is it ASTM certified. So while it is much lighter than helmets that do boast one or more of these safety features, like the MET Parachute or the KASK Defender, it isn’t all-singing all-dancing.
Without exhausting all avenues of research here, we can say the LIMAR Alpe is probably one of the lightest full face helmets on the market. It beats the 595g iXS Trigger, the 640g Endura MT500 and the 700g MET Parachute of 2018 but again, all of those helmets are ASTM certified for DH. The LIMAR Alpe is not, or at least the LIMAR website has no mention of it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not knocking LIMAR for it. They should be congratulated for making such a lightweight full face helmet but it’s usage is limited to trail riding, despite what its aggressive looking exterior might suggest.
The LIMAR Alpe is composed of ABS hardshell-EPS, an in-mould PC-EPS lowershell and an ABS chin bar, providing full face protection. Protection extends down towards the back of the neck, providing decent coverage of the back of the head. The Alpe looks to be well compatible with LIMAR’s ROC goggles, and the peak is adjustable to keep the sun out of your eyes on bright days.
54cm to 60cm is a fairly wide head circumference range. LIMAR supply the Alpe with two sets of pads of differing widths, non-allergenic and washable, to allow riders to tailor the fit properly. Fit is also adjusted via the use of the Active Fit System with wheel-adjustable rear cradle. No fewer than 26 vents allow air flow throughout the helmet to keep you cool.

The LIMAR Alpe certainly seems like good value for money, appropriately priced at €104.95. It is available now, in one size only, in four matte colorways; Dark Red, Black/Titanium, Dark Green and Grey/Yellow.
