Litelok is going head-to-head with other U-lock makers with new lighter, but more secure Litelok X locks, protected by a new Barronium composite construction that gives them unparalleled anti-theft resistance against angle grinders. Offering a claimed 5-15X more security thanks to their multi-material tech that resists the most common bike theft techniques, Litelok still manages to protect your bike without extra weight…

Litelok X lightweight theft-resistant U-locks

Newly self-crowning themselves as makers of the “world’s lightest, most practical, and convenient angle grinder-resistant bike lock” the new Litelok X lightweight theft-resistant U-locks pack their innovation inside. The secret is the “Barronium” inside a multi-material construction that fuses composite fiber to a hardened high-tensile steel core (which resists conventional bolt cutter, hammer& chisel & prybar attacks), that then is covered with a plant-based rubber protection layer.

The functional result they say resists angle grinder attacks by “turning the grinder’s energy and force on itself” – quickly wearing down multiple grinder disks, draining batteries, and damaging the grinder’s motor.

I’m incredibly excited to have reimagined the popular D-lock format with innovative design features and our own technology Barronium, which provides the ultimate in anti-angle grinder resistance. The range was put through extensive tests, breaking discs and grinders in the process. It’s light, secure and incredibly strong. I believe it’s a gamechanger and unlike anything else on the market,” says LITELOK Founder & CEO, Professor Neil Barron.

Litelok describes their 1700g X1 U-lock (they like to call it a D-lock) as “5X more secure than the current best-selling, best-performing D-locks” on the market. This standard X1 bike lock has an ART4-accredited locking cylinder and internal dimensions of 101 x 196mm.

With a heavier-duty Abloy Sentry lock – the “most pick-proof cylinder available” on the market – Litelok describes their slightly heavier 1900g X3 as “15X more secure than the current best-selling, best-performing D-locks” on the market. It is essentially the same size overall, with 99 x 194mm clear inside the locked loop.

The UK-made locks are Sold Secure Bicycle Diamond certified. They feature retro-reflective detailing, and come with a secure & rattle-free Twist+Go mounting bracket to carry it on your bike. But Litelok also partnered with Restrap to make a lock holster available separately, as well.

We expect to try out the X1 to protect our bike on commutes soon, although I kinda don’t want to try to ruin my own angle grinder at home and hope it doesn’t get a real-world test when I leave my bike at the train station. I guess we’ll see.

Instead of cutting the indestructible U shaped bar, cut the bottom straight bar with the lock instead. Your bike will gone in seconds….

If you damage their grinder, they’ll just inject superglue into your lock to punish you and then you still lose your bike cause you can’t get the lock off.
Sigh. Ignore me. I’m just so tired and cynical of the ongoing escalations in the bicycle theft wars.

At 1.7kg it doesn’t feel necessarily light compare to my other locks (Kryptonite keeper, Abus bordo folding lock, Tigr lock), in fact it is the heaviest. Also the plastic bracket is already broken in half after a few months of use. Security wise I suppose it’s pretty good.

Cool locks, but 1.7kg (3.8 pounds) is not light and 150 GBP (186 USD) is not cheap.
It’s heavy and expensive.
Thieves cut bike frames too.
You’ll still want insurance.
