The Half Moon pub in south London hosted the third round of the Rollapaluza winter roller racing league last night… and also hosted a special guest in the shape of Mark Cavendish. Cav dropped in to the event during a brief stopover in London, but was content to watch the action and did not take to the rollers himself. Instead, the fastest man in last year’s peloton will begin his season at the Ruta del Sol in two weeks’ time, after HTC Columbia announced that he would not compete at the Tour of Qatar due to a dental problem.
The Rollapaluza winter league round three, sponsored by Brixton Cycles, also doubled as the London heat of the upcoming Nationals series. The men’s event was won by Miles Stovold, covering the 500m in a time of 20.51 seconds, shaving more than half a second from the record time on the new set of rollers. Meanwhile, in the women’s competition, Dorchie Cockerell squeezed to victory with a time of 24.66 seconds, 0.1 seconds faster than Rollapaluza CC’s Estelle Rogers.
