Bikepacking Scotland stitched together the multi-day Wild About Argyll Trail exploring hundreds of miles of lesser traveled gravel roads and forest trails along Scotland’s western coast. Join founder Markus Stitz just north of Glasgow as he leads a video highlight tour of the route and its lush coastal tracks.
Wild About Argyll Trail bikepacking in Scotland
Dubbed Scotland’s Adventure Coast, Argyll & its isles offer a scenic backdrop for a bikepacking adventure – assuming you are cool with a bit of wet weather according to Stitz. “For me riding in Scotland is not about sunny, blue skies every day, it is much more about exploring those dense forests, waterfalls, streams and the beautiful coastal scenery and hills in all weather conditions that Scotland has to offer.”
The 407mi/655km Wild About Argyll Trail that they have mapped out weaves in and out of the rugged landscape. First developed in 2017 with local support, the new route expands on the cycling segment of the multi-disciplinary Wild About Argyll campaign of Mark Beaumont earlier last year.
You can find downloadable GPX files of the route, plus the trip broken into four sectors with detailed descriptions, all at Bikepacking Scotland’s website. All in, the Wild About Argyll Trail promises an awe-inspiring backdrop for bikepacking, with frequent, direct rail connections from nearby Glasgow or Edinburgh.
