While any number of kids rode rode their bikes off road, it was a couple of friends from a small town in Marin County that changed the sport of cycling in the 1970s.
So it seems only natural that the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame, which is currently located in the small town of Crested Butte, Colorado (population ~1,500), move to Marin. The Museum was founded by Dan Cook and has occupied a small corner of the ex mining towns heritage museum for the past twenty five years. Unfortunately, the towns remote location has made it difficult for many riders to make the pilgrimage and the memorabilia is quickly outgrowing it’s space.
Under the direction of Joe Breeze and other notable off road pioneers, the new museum will be opening early next year in a 3,000 sq ft location in Fairfax, Ca. We’ll be there to cover the opening!
