2016 Eddy Merckx San Remo 76 aero road bike

With 525 professional victories to choose from, Eddy Merckx Bicycles has an easy time of picking names for bikes in their their revamped 2016 line. The latest machine pays homage to the Cannibal’s victory at the 1976 Milan-SanRemo – the SanRemo 76.

Eddy Merckx entered the Milan-SanRemo race 10 times, winning it seven times, the last victory taking place in 1976. The Cannibal’s record stands to this day. The new SanRemo76 road bike is about aerodynamics, stiffness and power transfer…

The SanRemo 76 is designed for performance cycling, ideal for powerful sprinters – the frame is stiff with just the right amount of compliance. It uses a carbon monocoque frame construction, which extends to the carbon monocoque fork.

The clean lines of the bike extend from the fork to the seatpost; non-integrated rim brakes keep everything simple, which is really appreciated by those who perform their own bicycle maintenance. Frames tip the scale at approximately 1,000 grams, with the monocoque and tapered composite fork weighing in at 380 grams.

Cable routing is internalized for mechanical and electronic shifting, while the crank spins on a BB86 bottom bracket.

The seatpost is an aero affair with 20mm of seatback which compliments the SanRemo 76 nicely, down to the integrated seatpost clamp.

This is “new”? Looks like the same bike that was released this year. Same name too. Maybe the black-green paint is new, but the rest looks familiar unless I am missing some design subtleties.
