Just in time for this coming weekend’s 2021 DH World Championships in Val di Sole, Fox Racing have updated their top-level DH Racing helmet, the Fox Rampage Pro Carbon MIPS. Tahnee Seagrave, Loic Bruni, Laurie Greenland and all the other Fox Racing athletes will be relying on its lightweight carbon fibre shell, dual-density EPS and MIPS liner for protection. Here’s what’s new.
2021 FOX Rampage Pro Carbon
The Fox Rampage Pro Carbon is a lightweight full face helmet for downhill mountain biking with MIPS directional impact protection technology. Actually, the details we have from Fox aren’t super clear right now – they aren’t specific about exactly what is new on this iteration of the helmet. We know that some previous models have relied upon the Fluid Inside technology to handle rotational impact energy, but this version swaps that out for MIPS. Though, it is definitely not the first version of the Rampage Pro Carbon to feature MIPS… anyway, we’ll have more details for you soon. Here’s what we do know.
That MIPS liner is tucked away inside a lightweight carbon fibre shell that is also home to Fox Racing’s proprietary Dual-density, In-Mold Varizorb EPS said to provide improved protection by spreading forces over a wider surface area.
In addition to the MIPS liner, breakaway screws that mount the visor will shear off during an impact, further helping to reduce the rotational forces transferred to the rider’s brain.
Sitting on the MIPS liner is a comfort liner in the form of the removable and washable X-Static pads which wick moisture away from the rider’s head. The cheek pads within the chin piece are also removable and washable, and all pads are treated with an anti-microbial finish to prevent odor developing.
