Canyon just dropped a weirdly vague urban traffic teaser image into our inbox that led us to a microsite for a new mountain bike project coming on December 11. Under the tagline of breaking the routine, official details are completely non-existent at the moment. But enough info hides in there that we can offer a glimpse of what’s coming for the new, possibly big-wheeled enduro and all mountain bike…
2018 Canyon Spectral enduro all mountain bike
It doesn’t hurt that there seems to be a bit more hiding in another short clip that showed up on Instagram the middle of the week with a similar looking black & yellow trail bike getting muddy. Is that the new bike? Or just a special painted team bike? What we see there is a set of hard-to-miss-yellow Mavic wheels, which shout Deemax. Are they big enough to be 29ers? There is nothing in Mavic’s 2018 product line that fits that description so far. The video loop on Canyon’s microsite drops the yellow rims (keeping yellow Mavic hubs), looking more stealthy.
Frame wise it is a little harder to tell what we are looking at from the blurry clips. But the bigger bend in the lower downtube suggests a carbon frame (vs. Canyon’s hydroformed alloy tube shaping) and the standard 4-bar rocker shape looks a lot like the current Strive or Spectral. Besides the meaty tires & wheels, the padded up riders with all-mountain helmets riding trail suggests longer travel, in what could be Canyon’s first longer travel 29er enduro/all-mountain bike.
Oh, and it doesn’t hurt that the coding on the Noroutine website names that looping riding footage as “Spectral pre-registration”. So I guess we know that, and we’ll get the full details in mid December…
