Prospective owners of a Nukeproof Giga will, at some point, have to decide whether they want the 290 with its complete 29″ wheelset, or the 297 with a mixed-wheel configuration. The good news for current 290 owners is that they can (almost) have the best of both worlds with today’s release of an MX Link for the Giga. The news comes with the arrival of a new color for Nukeproof’s Horizon componentry; the entire collection is now available in an anodized silver finish.
Nukeproof Giga MX Link
In a bid to make the Nukeproof Giga appeal to a wider range of riders, and to give current Giga 290 owners more setup options, Nukeproof has released an aftermarket link that allows the Giga 290 to be converted to a mullet configuration, without the need to purchase a new swingarm. The £74.99 MX Horse Shoe Link simply corrects the bike’s geometry after the 29″ rear wheel has been switched out for a 27.5″, raising the bottom bracket back to a reasonable height.
It doesn’t give rise to exactly the same geometry as an off-the-shelf Nukeproof Giga 297. The chainstays will be 5mm longer than the Giga 297. The swap shouldn’t alter bike’s character dramatically, but it will help out folk who may have previously struggled with bum-to-tire clearance on super steep descents.
For anyone wanting to do a full conversion of their Giga 290 to the Giga 297, Nukeproof is selling the necessary swingarm replacement for £699.99. It has clearance for a 27.5″ x 2.6″ tire.
