Swedish suspension specialists Öhlins upgrade their sought-after mountain bike coil shock with a new second generation TTX22m.2 that promises even better adjustment range and end stroke control. The updated shock looks pretty much like the original , but inside iterative updates and new options outside are the result of continuous development of the UCI DH World Cup & EWS race-winning suspension platform.

Öhlins built a name for themselves as makers of high-performance and highly-adjustable suspension, and their TTX Coil has been their benchmark shock for pretty much everything from hardcore trail riding to full-on pro downhill racing. The long-running TTX22M coil shock is already a popular choice – both of professional gravity racers on the World CUP DH & EWS race circuits, and of bike maker looking to create ultra-premium, often limited-edition builds of their consumer mountain bikes.

Now the mark 2 TTX22M.2 takes big hit coil performance, traction, and control to a new level…

What’s new?

The new shock gets improved bottom-out protection thanks to a redesigned rubber bumper & cup, that actually engages earlier than before. With earlier bumper contact, the rider gets more consistent, more predictable support towards the end on the shocks’ mid stroke allowing for better control. And it means much less risk of a hard bottom out.

The revamped design is said to act as a secondary spring later in the travel that prevents bottoming out as before, but now with a more controlled rebound after the heavy compression of a big hit. Öhlins says it’s an especially noticeable improvement for less progressive bikes that rely heavily on the shock for end stroke support.

The updated shock also makes it easier to adjust stroke, simply by inserting 2.5 mm washers under the rubber bumper cup, without disassembling the shock. As always, the coil spring can be simply swapped by loosening its preload and popping its seat lockring out of the way.

Setup & tuning also gets a wider adjustment range inside, with the option for one of two different high-speed compression valves. A new blue Trail compression valve offers a wider range of adjustment, from increased support in pedal mode for improved climbing to full open at the other extreme for descending. The same gold DH compression valve option carries over unchanged, with a lower level of support for more supple movement.  The longest shocks will come with the DH valves standard, and the rest will get the Trail valve, but either can be swapped out for more customization.
